During a Wednesday night service our Worship Pastor, Dawn G, shared this article with us. I thought it was phenomenal. It threw into perspective what worship does to a congregation.
Here it is:
Excerpt from Colossians 3:12-17
“…with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.”
Reflection by Quinn G. Caldwell, Associate Minister of Old South Church in Boston, Massachusetts.
There are about 5,400 animal species that make complex, intentional, repeatable, musical vocalizations. That is, there are about 5,400 species that sing. The majority live in the trees, a few live in the oceans, a very few live underground, but there is one—only one—singing species that lives on the ground: us.
Humans are the only singing species with a precise and shared sense of rhythm, which is what allows us to sing together. Two birds might sing the same song, but they cannot sing it together.
If a roomful of people sings at the same time, they start to breathe at the same time as well. Some studies suggest that if the drumbeat or bass line is strong enough, their hearts will begin to beat together, too. And if we’re singing together and breathing together and our hearts are beating together, then it’s like we’re one body. And you know Whose body it is.
All the other species stop singing when danger approaches. But humans sing louder the closer the danger gets. We sing together, and we become large, and we do not back down.
So come racism and “We Shall Overcome” you.
Come fear, for “It is Well with My Soul.”
Come war, for tonight is your “Silent Night.”
Come death, for “Jesus Christ is Risen Today.”
Come, all ye faithful, and sing.
Lord, I can’t read music and I can’t carry a tune in a bucket. But I’m-a singin’ your praises anyway. Amen.
Has anyone heard of these before? This is my first time. When I watched this video the light bulb in my head didn’t just turn on, it blew up.
I love reading books and watching videos about the genius of creation. This is a wonderful example of the creativity of God.
Here it is:
Cool, eh? Here’s another one that portrays the pattern in nature a little better:
Thanks for reading,
My family has been upgrading their phones recently. I’m a huge fan of Google, so when they asked me to help pick a few out, I pointed towards Android devices. Mine hasn’t come in the mail yet, but I’ve been able to geek out on my parents phones.
I’ve been spending this time in awe of how such a small device can be so efficient and connected with things around it. I’m not that old, but I remember when you could hurt your arm trying to pull the antenna out on the older generation phones.
I’ve been thinking about how clever we are to have harnessed the power of the sun, wind, and water. We have cars that can travel miles in minutes, buildings scraping the sky, and medicine to cure illness.
And then I looked in the mirror and caught a glimpse of my eye. I watched as it instantly reacted to different levels of light. How it seamlessly, and without my command, adapted to give me vision.
We don’t even come close. As Thomas Edison said, “We don’t know a millionth of one percent about anything.”
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.”
My father and Woody C have both been encouraging me to read the Bible front to back in recent months. So, a couple weeks ago during my early readings in Genesis I was reminded of a supposed contradiction in the Creation account. Here it is:
24 - And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
25 - And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.
26 - And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth
This is the Sixth day. Man is created after the Earth, trees, birds, and animals. But many claim the Genesis contradicts itself when it lists things in a totally different order.
1 – Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
5 - And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and [there was] not a man to till the ground.
7 - And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
8 - And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9 - And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Here we have Man created followed by the beast and the trees. But if you look at verses 1 and 5 you’ll notice that everything is done. Chapter 2 is an overview of what happened on day 6!
God created the entire Earth, including trees, fish, and birds, and then He devoted an entire chapter to what He did on day six. He created Man, then a garden, and then the animals and trees to fill the garden.
This is a hilarious video that I enjoyed very much.
The opening and ending are a little random, but everything else is worth watching!
And I forgot to mention earlier, I found this video reading from Living Journey.
If you are an Evolutionist, brace yourself. Two posts in a row devoted to beating you guys up is enough to make me feel bad.
If evolution is true, then there is no solid reason to keep murder illegal.
Watch nature. Animals kill each-other for power, pride, food, fear or anger. Animals kill other kinds of animals for sport or food. Much like humans do.
If evolution is true, then we exist only because we killed off the weaker of our species. “Survival of the fittest.”
What changes that now? Why should we in our somehow greater wisdom decide what is right from wrong, when we have nothing to base right from wrong. How can you have a Moral Law when that law does not co-exist with the laws of nature?
Unless of course it is based upon someone greater than nature. Someone who created animals beneath us. Someone who allowed humans to choose the knowledge of good from evil.
If law is only a evolutionary advancement, then it is not absolute. If it is not absolute, you have no business telling someone they cannot murder, rape, steal, or anything else you have decided to call “evil.”
Evolution has huge gaps. With science, as well as ethics.
The Atheist does not exist, and I can prove it.
If I were to say “there is no gold in China,” you would probably disagree. You would ask, “What proof do you have for this?” And I would answer, “I have never seen, felt, heard, or tasted it in China. It therefore must not be there.”
You come to me and tell me there is no God. I ask you why and you tell me, “I have never seen, felt, tasted, or heard God. He does not exist.”
You may laugh at this while pointing out the differences. But I am not finished.
By making the claim that there is no gold in China, the burden of proof is on me. I must prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is not even the tiniest speck of gold in China. For if you were to go there, look under every rock, in every tree, search all the homes and fingers of every person living and visiting China and find a minuscule amount I would be wrong.
When you say there is no God, the burden of proof is on you. You must prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that God has by no means created Earth, human beings, nature, or the cosmos.
You must prove that he does not exist at all.
To do this you must undertake a task far more hefty than searching the trees and rocks of China. You would have to search every Planet, Star, Asteroid, Moon and Comet in our infinite Universe to proclaim without a doubt that God does not exist.
You are not an Atheist. You are an Agnostic. You simply do not know if God exists. Yet.
Tell me, how did this evolve? Why did it evolve?
When did the tree figure out that the seeds were not going out far enough? Why did it come up with something so different from what every other tree was doing?
It would have been allot easier for it to evolve a rolling seed, like the apple tree. But no, the Maple tree has a awesome, “helicopter” seed. I believe God wanted to show off on this tree.
I see that all over creation. If things truly were able to evolve slowly into new creatures, certain clever factors in nature would not exist. Why would they? Evolution can only explain the bare necessites in creatures, and then only barely. Where and why did color appear in animals? Camoflauge you say? Oh. Well why did color appear in the plants?
Maybe there are some answers out there. But they will probably delve into speculation and lean on un-proved facts.
“The present human population supports the Genesis record. According to known historical records, the world’s population doubles approximately every 100 years. This population doubling has happened even faster in the last few hundred years, taking place about every 60 years.
Starting with an origional population of eight people from the ark (Noah’s family), one can easily calculate that the population would have to double itself a little over 26 times to produce the present world population. If the most straightforward understanding of the Bible is correct, Noah lived about 4,500 years ago. This gives an average doubling interval of almost 166 years, which is really conservative when compared to the observed doubling rate of approximately 100 years.
Now let’s assume that evolution is correct and that some apelike creatures turned into into people approximately 1.000.000 years ago. You can calculate how many people there should be on Earth based on the historical rate of a population doubling (once every 166 years), starting with two former “ape-people” , and doubling their population every 166 years for 1,000,000 years (6,000 times). The result is more people on the earth than there are atoms in the entire universe. If people have been around for as long as evolutionists tell us, why aren’t there more people and where are all the bodies?”
(The above is quoted from ‘A closer look at the evidence’, by Richard and Tina Kleiss)
Now, I have no idea how they would calculate the ammount of atoms in the universe. But the idea is simple: There are not enough people to back it up.
In order for a scientific fact to be made a law, it must first be proven that there are no exceptions.
Take, for example, the law of thermodynamics.
ANYTHING left to itself will inevitably fall to a lower state of order. No exceptions. Or are there?
The world of science would have us believe, that for the past 400 billion years(or whatever), our universe has not only had a sustained exsistence but has thrived and risen to higher levels of order.
Isn’t that an exception? A very BIG exception?
